Vancouver works because public services work.
Every day, CUPE members keep this city running. They keep our parks safe and our streets clean, staff our busy community centres, deliver library and recreation programming for our kids and families, and support some of our most vulnerable community members.
This year, Mayor Ken Sim and his ABC-majority council pushed through their “zero means zero” budget with a 0% property tax increase. Balancing that budget requires finding $120 million in “savings” by cutting back the city’s core operations.
You cannot make cuts of that scale without impacting the services people rely on. And Sim has promised another zero-increase budget in 2027 if re-elected, ensuring further damage.
This is a choice. To balance their “zero means zero” budget, Ken Sim and his ABC-majority council are making workers and families pay for it. They are raising fees and forcing city departments to find “efficiencies” that mean service reductions and staff shortages. This is short-sighted austerity.
Better Vancouver is calling on Mayor Sim and Council to:

Why I'm Supporting...

I’ve lived in Vancouver all my life. The city has grown expansively. To keep some part of what is the most prized place to call home we need to care for it in the best ways possible. Sometimes small, sometimes large. The care of public space is crucially important!

As a homeowner, I don’t mind paying my fair share of taxes to ensure public services remain affordable and accessible for me and my neighbours, and keep Vancouver parks, community centres, and libraries well staffed and well taken care of without undue extra cost to Vancouver residents. This fake austerity that shifts the cost of access to the user and weakens our public services has to stop.

I am supporting the protection of Vancouver city public services to ensure its citizens have access to and receive prompt support at public services such as housing and shelter, libraries and recreation programs and that public spaces and bike lanes are maintained and/or repaired promptly. It is profoundly disheartening to witness an increasing number of unhoused people and people with addiction issues in our city whose needs are not met.

Because I want to see our city care about our parks and play spaces. That is where our taxes are going, if they aren't will to take care our spaces then we shouldn't have to pay taxes for it.

I'm supporting because I don't want the quality of life in this city to degrade for the middle and lower earners here.

It’s ridiculous to think a zero tax on property can lead to anything but a reduction service to all of us. Those that own homes need to contribute. Period.

I use Vancouver’s recreation facilities, libraries and parks every week and we as a community need to keep these spaces and services going strong, including keeping staffing levels where they need to be. Do NOT make more cuts, especially when city money is being spent on other things that do not maintain or improve the quality of life of citizens who actually live and work in this city!

Your priorities are not supporting the people who live here and rely on municipal services. Your policies have a particular negative impact on low income, vulnerable residents.

I’m supporting this because I don’t trust what Ken Sims tells us and I want to see service levels maintained.

I’m supporting because our cost of living is increasing and we are struggling, yet the mayor only cares about the rich.

I believe well supported public services are important to a healthy city. Affordability and well serviced facilities are very important at this time. I would prefer to pay taxes for this rather than for FIFA.

I’m a senior who’s lived in Vancouver my entire life and hate seeing it go downhill from the beautiful public parks and recreation that it once was. It should be a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy..

When city hall cuts frontline services, everyone pays the price with higher fees, longer, waitlists and weaker services. Take action now.

City services (community centres, pools, libraries) are what make Vancouver worth staying in, despite the high cost of living here.
